ACEC-MN Design Technology Forum - VR Presentation Recap

Today I had the opportunity to talk about LHB's work with Virtual Reality (VR) at the Minnesota ACEC Design Technology Forum, hosted by AET in St. Paul, Minnesota. It went really well, with a good turnout and lots of great questions.

Additionally...

The Design Technology Forum is a group of Civil and MEP engineers who are ACEC members that get together to promote industry standards and enhanced workflows... a group I am involved with!

Here are a few images from the presentation thanks to LHB's Adam Besse, P.E., Civil Engineer,  who was in attendance.

One of my first points was that is does not matter what we think of VR in AEC, but what does the client think! Here are several LHB/client interactions pictured, which all concluded with very positive feedback.

I showed recorded examples of several programs a designer might use to facilitate VR, with the intention of letting each person/firm decide for themselves which options might work best for them. This example was from Fuzor.

Another example I showed was Enscape. Here is a video, followed by a still image, from the presentation created in one of our dedicated VR spaced with a green-screen background!

I also showed IrisVR, ReviztoRevit Live and a brief mention of Lumion.

I also showed off the promotional video Dell created featuring our work in VR:)

Finally, I also shared this KARE11 news segment as it also does a great job of showcasing our efforts in VR!

We had lots of great discussions about hardware the some of the challenges implementing this technology in the Civil/Landscape realm with the main design platforms are not directly supported; such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Infraworks, and Microstation.
