AIA COTE Philly 2030 Working Group - Environmental Design Tools (10 AUG 2020)

AIA Philadelphia has been hosting a great series of events each month. Today's post is about next week's 'working group' and a presentation I will be giving... and its free!

This coming Monday I will be representing Lake|Flato and presenting, remotely via Zoom, at the AIA Philly 2030 COTE 'working group' session on Environmental Design Tools. There are five presenters, each covering popular energy modeling tools geared towards architects. I will be presenting on the Revit + Insight workflow!

Here are the speakers and topics to be covered:
  • Carl Sterner, Sol Design Consulting; Sefaira
  • Kirin Kennedy, DIGSAU; Cove.Tool
  • Dan Stine, Lake|Flato; Autodesk Insight
  • Blanca Dasi Espuig, HOK; Climate Studio
  • Eesha Khanna, KieranTimberlake; Grasshopper/Ladybug/Honeybee
The attendees will have the opportunity to attend three of the five sessions. Thus, this means we will each be presenting the material three times. I understand the breakout groups will be recorded, and I look forward to watching the other four!

In the image below, you can see the full list of sessions.

Highlights:

You’re invited to join the AIA Philadelphia Committee on the Environment to learn more about the 2030 Commitment, to share knowledge, and to improve practice. Architects have an important role to play in addressing the climate crisis. In Philadelphia, buildings alone contribute to more than 70% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions. In Part 2 of the 2030 Working Group, we will focus on design strategies to reduce emissions, paving the road to net zero in 2030.

  1. Differentiate between environmental design software typically used by designers and building performance specialists.

  2. Compare and contrast software available for designers.

  3. Evaluate firms’ experiences with different environmental design tools.

  4. Develop recommendations for tools to use on their own work.
