Advancing Computational Building Design - February 2023

Later this month I will be speaking at the 6th annual Advancing Computational Building Design conference in Chicago, Il.

I will be doing one session with colleagues from Lake|Flato and moderating a panel discussion with some other great people in the industry! This is the topic of today's post.

Conference Description (official)
Computational Design is enabling better building design, faster and the race is on to improve workflows and train staff so computation can help achieve design objectives on every project.

At the 6th annual Advancing Computational Building Design you’ll learn how to overcome business hurdles to accelerate computation adoption, as well as explore the most cutting-edge use cases of how generative and parametric design have achieved design objectives and satisfied clients that would not have been possible just a few years ago.

Join Thornton Tomasetti, Gensler, and Lake|Flato Architects among other industry leaders, as we come together to accelerate computational adoption, scale the usability of computation tools, and improve design outcomes.

Case Study: Leveraging Parametric Design Opportunities to Get Your Designs to the Next Level

In this session, we will be highlighting two exciting projects, both from our Eco Con studio. One is built here in San Antonio, and the other is under construction in Arizona.

Speakers:
  • Sunnie Diaz, Project Architect, Lake|Flato Architects

  • Sean O’Brien, Project Designer, Lake|Flato Architects

  • Daniel Stine, Design Technology Director, Lake|Flato Architects

Panel: Identifying & Developing the Skill Sets Required Within Your Team to Capitalize on the Opportunities of Computational Design

This panel discussion covered the what, when, and who related to computational design within a practice. The best part is the diversity in firm size and experience in this realm, making it practical for everyone in the audience!

Speakers:
  • Sean Page, Partner, Computational Designer & Architect, RDG Planning & Design

  • Jacqueline Warner, Principal, Pfluger Architects

  • Michael Zabritski, Practice Technology Director, Boulder Associates

  • Elliot Glassman, Computational Design Senior Associate, Senior Technical Principal & Leader, WSP Group
Moderator:
  • Daniel Stine, Design Technology Director, Lake|Flato Architects

The photo below is of our preparation session last week in our newly remodeled office here in San Antonio, Texas!

I hope to see you there!
