UpCodes Presentation Featuring Adam Martin from Lake|Flato

We recently participated in a webinar about how Lake|Flato uses UpCodes.

Adam Martin, Lake|Flato Architect and Project Manager, starts with a great overview of regulations of the built environment and then shares how we leverage the Project Management tool and AI features within UpCodes.

Lake|Flato practices nationally, so we must understand the building codes quickly in every jurisdiction we work. When we work with a local architect of record (AOR) the design team benefits from their regional experience. In either case, a tool like UpCodes can help quickly understand the code as amended... which is the actual law, not the base code.

This presentation might be a great refresher for practicing architects and a high-level intro for emerging architects and students!

The image below is from the UpCodes Code Calculator, where Adam shares how this tool is used to organize and quickly comprehend the code requirements for a local jurisdiction. Like a good cooking show, Adam enters something like "construction type" that is not permissible with the height of the proposed building. The tool helps to quickly identify this error, avoiding costly and time-consuming changes required changes later in the project.

Adam also highlights the AI feature within UpCodes, highlighting the provided references and diagrams.

Here is an example of a diagram developed by UpCodes for its customers. They are a great resource for new and experienced people in building codes.

In addition to the paid version of the building code tool, UpCode offers a free searchable version of the amended codes, which is the law in a specific area. This free version does not have many of the bells and whistles Adam shared in this presentation. Adoptions by Publisher | UpCodes
