Join me for a preview of a workshop I will be giving at the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) internal conference in Tokyo, Japan, later this year! The preview webinar, hosted by ArchVision, is free and in the second week of July, 2025.
Update:
Here is a recording of the presentation: Architectural Storytelling through Real-Time Visualization, Sketching, and AI
If you are involved or even just interested in architectural visualization, I highly recommend you consider attending this conference. Last year it was in College Station, Texas. This year it is in Tokyo, Japan. After the airfare, which will be about double the cost of a domestic US flight, much of the costs of a conference will be about the same. YOU should go! :)
Two of the three days of the conference will be hosted at Nikken Sekkei's offices in Tokyo. I now know four people there... two are former colleagues - one from Minnesota and another from here at Lake Flato.
Here are a few details about the presentation/workshop...
Architectural Storytelling through Real-Time Visualization, Sketching, and AI

Description:
Join ArchVision as we welcome Dan Stine, Director of Design at LakelFlato, for Architectural Storytelling through Real-Time Visualization, Sketching, and AI.Effectively communicating design intent requires more than just compelling visuals—it demands a layered narrative approach. At Lake|Flato Architects, we blend real-time visualization using Enscape with expressive hand-sketched overlays to craft compositions that resonate artistically while enhancing stakeholder understanding. These visuals are brought to life through immersive tools such as cinematic videos, interactive virtual reality, and guided on-screen walkthroughs. In this session, Dan will also delve into practical, real-world applications of AI that are expanding the boundaries of architectural visualization and streamlining the storytelling process.
This presentation will be a preview of the workshop led by Dan Stine at the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) conference in Japan, October 1-3, 2025.

Here is a great overview of the upcoming conference by the 2025 president of ASAI, Tom Gastel from Nikken Sekki.
Here are just a few examples of images
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Of course, we need to discuss how AI fits into the picture... it cannot (and should not) be ignored. I used Veras to create my Revit 2025 textbook covers. Here are some recent experiments using OpenAI's new image creation feature within ChatGTP, which I will also discuss.
Handsketching
At Lake Flato, we often embellish final renders with hand sketching as shown in this example of our own office remodel (sketching here by Evan Morris).
Fun fact: two of my 19 textbooks are on architectural hand sketching. I touch on this while describing scene composition in this Enscape blog post: The Best Architectural Rendering Perspective: Enscape Best Practices
