UTSA Presentation and Design Crit Last Week

Last week, I had the opportunity to present to Interior design students (Monday) and also participate in a design studio crit (Friday) with architecture students at UTSA. Here is a quick share on that in today's post.

The architecture and interior design students are located in the downtown campus of UTSA, which is less than 10 minutes from our office!

Interior Design Presentation

On Monday, I presented to Professor i̇layda çetin's interior design students. I covered several Revit tips and tricks, and a few Enscape workflows. I also gave a (Revit + Enscape) tour of a Lake|Flato project to highlight what is possible!

Architecture Crit

On Friday, I visited an architecture studio led by Courtney Jones and Tristan Andrews, both of whom are practitioners from Overland Partners leading the studio as adjunct professors.

I was joined by three other reviewers:
The students were given two impressive goals...
  1. Develop a design with the AIA Framework for Design Excellence in mind, including the requirements for the COTE Top Ten Student competition.
  2. Design a binational project on the USA - Mexico border - inspired by similar projects designed by Overland (eg Binational River Park).
The student presentations were well done and included many great strategies, including water conservation, thermal mass, natural ventilation, ecology, material reuse, shading, regional design and material considerations, and more. The graphics were also very nice... click the photos below to enlarge them.

It is also fun to hear what the other reviewers have to say, as there is also something new to learn and be inspired by!

Fun stuff!
