Review of Precision 5750 Laptop - What Dell Calls "the World's thinnest, lightest and smallest 17" workstation"

As one of only seven people in the world, outside of Dell, to have hands-on testing of the new 1/2" thick Dell Precision 5750 workstation-grade laptop with a 17" 4k touch display, I am extremely excited to share my review in today's BIM Chapters post... spoiler; this will be a game changer for many architects, engineers and designers in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.

The unit is aesthetically pleasing, light , reasonably powerful, flexible and has an incredible display powered by an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 with 6GB of dedicated GPU RAM.

What do you get if you cross my high-end Dell Precision 7730 laptop with my kid's Microsoft Surface Book? A Dell Precision 5750. You can quote me on that:)

The 5750 is not for everyone, e.g. large and complex custom architectural VR projects, but it is very capable as you will see in this review. I have tested everything from streaming 4k movies, to using Autodesk Revit, to Enscape's real-time RTX-enabled rendering engine, to using the HTC Vive Pro for virtual reality.

Product Review: Hypar

I had a recent web-based meeting with Anthony Hauck, and Ian Keough, both of the newly formed Hypar. Before I talk about Hypar, I want to make sure you know who these two guys are...

Anthony Hauck was with Autodesk for 10 years and at one point was head of all Revit product line development and in his most recent role headed the development of generative design among other things. I've crossed paths with him many times over the years, at AU and RTC/BILT. As well as most recently when LHB hired him, post-Autodesk, to give a web-based pretension on generative design. He is a great and passionate guy!

Ian Keough is, well, the father of Dynamo. For the past 5.5 years he was also with Autodesk. He was also involved in some interesting BIM360 Field development. Here is a 2014 interview on the origin's of Dynamo you may find interesting: Meet Ian Keough, Dynamo’s Papa. I still find it interesting how things have evolved from what the Revit founders thought regarding user programming in Revit, as I previously wrote about here: Revit User Programming - Not Originally in the Cards. Clearly Ian had a different vision, and it has been widely embraced!

Much more could be said about these two I am sure... but suffice it to say this is truly a dynamic-duo from which great things will emerge! See what I did there:)

Product Review: MSI WT75 8SM Laptop with Intel Xeon E-2176G 3.7GHz Desktop Processor

While at NVIDIA GTC earlier this year, where I presented on Virtual Reality (VR) in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) market, I had the opportunity to talk with Maggie Chen at the MSI booth in the exhibit hall. Through this lengthy discussion and follow up emails I was able to test one of their super new workstation-grade laptops for two weeks. This laptop has one thing in particular that is pretty amazing and could not even be mentioned publicly until today!

This laptop has an Intel Xeon E-2176G 3.70GHz Desktop Processor in it!

Wait, what? Not only is this a new processor, it is a desktop processor in a laptop.
