I think most advanced Revit users would agree that using keyboard shortcuts is essential to efficiency. Here is a quick post on how to transfer your custom keyboard shortcuts from one version of Revit to another (or from one computer to another).
The provided images should be self-explanatory...
- Image above: in the old version, export the keyboard shortcuts to a folder/file location of your choosing.
- Image below: Import the exported file into another version of Revit (or onto another computer).
In this example, the toggle for selecting elements by face has been assigned the keyboard shortcut "aa" in Revit 2024. Using the same key twice (near your left hand) is a quick way to access your favorite commands.
While importing, you have two options; merge or overwrite. Merge will create a bit of a mess in your file but preserve any company standards or possible new commands present in a new version of Revit (e.g., Toposolid). The latter will replace the file (to be safe, you might want to make a backup of the file before overwriting per the info below).
Notice the custom "aa" shortcut has been transferred to Revit 2025.
The keyboard shortcuts file can be found at the following location. This file can be manually copied and used to replace other versions of Revit (or on other computers). BIM Managers can replace this file in a deployment if they want to provide company-wide customizations.
- C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2024\KeyboardShortcuts.xml
