I am super excited to represent Lake|Flato at this year's AIA Conference on Architecture in Boston. I am involved in a LOT of activities, but most of them are well underway and are going to be a blast.
This post highlights my four sessions, a TAP + COTE symposium, amazing co-presenters, a B-COPP meet-up, and more!
- Session: Advancing Sustainable Architecture: Lake|Flato’s Journey With Autodesk Forma
- Session: Surviving & Thriving in the Design Data Desert
- Session: Preservation, Adaptive Reuse, Design for Deconstruction for the Carbon Win!
- Session: AI: Architecture’s Climate Resilience Future (A 20-Year Hurricane Katrina Retrospective)
- AIA COTE Leadership Group In-Person Meeting

SYM102 - TAP + COTE Symposium: Advancing a Sustainable Future through Technology Innovation
06/04/2025, 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM EDT
The built environment plays a significant role in climate change and resource depletion, making transitioning to sustainable design practices an imperative for the AEC industry. This symposium will address the intersection of architectural practice, technological innovation, and environmental stewardship.
Through expert-led panels, you'll learn about strategies for integrating AI, optimizing building performance, and navigating the evolving landscape of sustainable design and regulatory compliance. Plus explore the practical application of advanced technologies, the importance of carbon accounting methodologies, and collaborative approaches for fostering resilient and equitable built environments—all with an emphasis on actionable solutions for small and medium-sized AEC firms.
Lunch will be provided.
Receive 6.00 LUs (6.00 LUs/HSW) for attending the entire event. You will not receive credit for individual sessions.
We are curating a series of panel discussions and presentations covering key topics, including:
- Regulatory Compliance and Sustainable Building Certification Strategies: How will the rise of green codes impact practice, now and in the future?
- Carbon Emissions Reduction and LCA: How can architects effectively integrate carbon accounting throughout the project lifecycle to drive meaningful emissions reductions?
- Emerging Technologies in AI and Generative Optimization: How does AI change our industry approach to design, energy efficiency, and environmental impact assessment?
- Implementation Strategies for Small and Medium firms: How do practitioners from small & medium firms incorporate and advocate for tech inside and outside their firm?
Each Knowledge Community has a session dedicated to sharing what they have accomplished and what they are currently working on. In the COTE Open Forum, we also include time for breakout discussions on several relevant topics.
AIA Committee on the Environment Leadership
The COTE Leadership meets monthly, and at conference we carve out time to meet in person! Twelve of us oversee all things COTE... click here to see the current roster.
Finally, I look forward to a meet-up of architecture firms that are B-CORPs. Peter Nobile from Bergmeyer in Boston (who is also listed in registration for firm open studios) had the idea for this meet up... I had a small role in connecting the dots to make this official through the AIA!
I hope to see you there!
