My Presentation on Lighting Analysis at the 2018 Minnesota AIA Convention

This was the week for conferences... Greenbuild, Autodesk University and the Minnesota AIA Convention all happened this week.. I had the opportunity to present at the latter... which was yesterday. This post will recap my experience at the event.

My presentation was titled: Professional Lighting Analysis for Architects.

Additionally...

The session was sponsored by USGBC Minnesota and attendees earned GBCI and AIA CE credits.

At the end of my session, I gave away a new book by University of Minnesota School of Architecture professor Mary Guzowski titled The Art of Architectural Daylighting. Thanks for donating the book, Mary! I used this giveaway to promote the future 'lighting minor' she is developing with interior design professor Abimbola O. Asojo. See this post for more on that: Lighting Design at the University of Minnesota.

I also gave away two of my Revit 2019 'command reference' books. And, because it was 'student day' at the conference, I also gave away a copy of my Revit 2019 'design integration' book, selecting the winner just from any students attending my session.

Here is a view of the conference information & registration area within the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Thursday 15 October, 2018, at about 1:30 pm... my presentation is next up, in room 102C... a little over 130 people have signed up.

The presentation went well... everyone was very attentive and asked great questions at the end.

I presented on ElumTools, Licaso, Autodesk Lighting Analysis, Sefaira and ROAST. This was a lot to cover in 90 minutes!

My transition slides had corresponding images rendered in Enscape:)

I created a 48-page handout, which will be available for download later, from the AIA-MN website. Here are a few sample pages...

As luck would have it, and it was luck because I was not the one selecting the winners, Adam Pangrac from YHR Architects (Moorhead, MN) won a copy of my book. Connecting a few months ago through a common acquaintance, Adam filled in and presented to my students at NDSU while I was presenting on energy modeling in Ljubljana Slovenia last month.

As one would expect, this conference had a significant exhibit hall. These next two pictures do not really do it justice.

At the Dunwoody School of Architecture booth, I caught up with some students I know... one of which currently works at LHB (Ben Sherman, center right) and another used to (James, center left).

The Minneapolis Convention Center is located in downtown Minneapolis...

It was a good experience and opportunity to share how LHB is using technology to improve performance and safety through optimally designed lighting. And to validate possible USGBC LEED credits and Minnesota B3 requirements.
