You may have already read my blog post about NVIDIA DLSS support. If not, check it out here:

Here are the version 3.1 highlights:

  • Version: 3.1.0+51316
  • Released: 2021-07-21
    • Enscape Material Library
    • Enscape Material Editor overhaul and material import/export
    • View management improvements
    • Support for NVIDIA DLSS
    • NVIDIA real-time denoiser
    • Ray-traced sun shadows for still image capture
    • Simplified assets
    • Panorama gallery
    • Revit: Enscape Material Editor integration

Similar to previous updates, it seems like this could have easily been called version 4.0:) This is an amazing list of features for a mid-major version release.

I will quickly highlight two features that Revit users can enjoy right away, once they install this update. The material library and Enscape Material Editor.

Encape Material Library

Enscape is offering up high quality textures you can import into Revit. And, even if they don't have exactly what you are looking for, you can either start with these materials and modify them, or examine how they are made and make your own. Notice, once you click Import Selection (fyi: you can have more than one selected) a Revit material is created with the same name.

FYI: The little gear icon in the lower left lets you specify where the texture files are saved. By default this is saved to your C drive, which is not ideal in a typical multi-person project workflow. You will likely what to change this to your project's texture folder... meaning you need to adjust this for each project you are working on.

Enscape Material Editor

To catch up with some of the extra things Enscape users could do in SketchUp, there is now an Enscape Material Editor in Revit. This is "version 1.0" (if you will) of the material dialog in Revit, so it currently only works with Revit's "generic" materials.

Here is an example of a cool new option Revit users have, which has been in SketchUp for a while now... sliders to control the grass height and height variation. Previously this was only possible, in Revit, using special key words in the material name (which still work, btw).

There is a lot more to talk about, but this is all I have time for now. Stay tuned for more, both here and on the Enscape blog!
