BIMxt Network - Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality - April 14, 2022

I will be giving a short presentation on untethered VR at next week's virtual BIMxt Network meeting. The theme is Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality and will have two other presents, including Sam Anderson from Epic Games. Learn more in today's post!

Update: Link to recorded event now available below.

The fun stuff I will be sharing:
  • Full Enscape (via Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, etc)
  • Full Wireless (two ways)

Details:

Join us on April 14th at 1PM ET for our next BIMxt Network discussion on "Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality". We will be joined by the following experts:

  • Ryan Pastor - VD Services Manager, Building Point SouthEast

Verifying work in place against design documents has been a challenge that has plagued the construction industry for years. 3D coordination and clash detection have helped avoid rework in the field through advanced planning, but sometimes items don’t get installed in their intended locations. This can cause a negative downstream effect which can result in clashes that were supposed to be avoided in the first place.

This presentation will identify what Mixed Reality is and how it can be used on a construction site to help make the most informed decisions before and during field installation. Mixed reality is able to save time by efficiently visualizing and interacting with complex 3D data and also adds value by being able to geo-reference model objects by overlaying them onto the real-world.
  • Sam Anderson - Technical Marketing Manager, Epic Games

Real-time rendering provides an opportunity to visualize BIM models in interactive ways on multiple platforms. In this talk, Sam will showcase some of the workflows for creating immersive Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality experiences from BIM models using Unreal Engine.
  • Dan Stine - Director of Design Technology, Lake | Flato Architects

Once you’ve tried VR without the cord you’ll never want to go back, and your clients will thank you as well! For this tip, Dan will share the two ways they deliver untethered VR at Lake|Flato. One way is easy (anyone can do it) and the other is more advanced.
Be sure to reserve your spot by registering. We look forward to seeing you there!

What is the BIMxt Network?
The BIMxt Network brings together experts and practitioners using building models to discuss pertinent issues of the day. This is a fun, lively and interactive networking event that connects experts, fosters an online community of peers, and provides somewhat of a therapy session for modeling professionals.
