If you use Autodesk Insight for early energy modeling, you will want to read this and be aware of the big changes that will happen soon.
In less than two months, you will not be able to run an analysis, and by mid-2025, previous runs will not be accessible!
This is giving way to a new tool/workflow (next-gen Insight Total Carbon) we are already using at Lake|Flato for our AIA 2030 Commitment reporting for the 2024 reporting season (i.e., last year).
Update: there is an AIAU session on this new workflow coming up soon (March 5, 2025)... to register, click this link.
Here are the details to be aware of if you currently use Insight:
"Autodesk is phasing out Autodesk Insight Energy Analysis and Green Building Studio and replacing it with next generation Autodesk Insight Carbon Analysis. As of April 2nd 2025, customers will no longer have the option to analyze Autodesk Revit and Autodesk FormIt models using Autodesk Insight Energy Analysis and Autodesk Green Building Studio. Effective July 1st, 2025, customers will no longer have access to the models and analysis submitted to Insight Energy Analysis and Autodesk Green Building Studio."
Why the change:
"Autodesk Insight Energy Analysis and Green Building Studio are being replaced by next generation Autodesk Insight Carbon Analysis."
Below is an image from next gen Insight Total Carbon for our San Antonio office. It uses Building Transparency's open-source EPD database for embodied carbon analysis and EnergyPlus for energy modeling. We have only done testing on embodied carbon since it is limited to the envelope.
For early energy modeling, it is important to note that the HVAC selection in Revit, in the Energy Settings dialog, does not affect the run in the new Insight. It only does an "ideal air" based calc. It is possible to define an HVAC system using Revit Systems Analysis (which was done in the model shown below to define a VRF and DOAS system)... but, my understanding is this is not the long-term intended workflow for architects.

Important Dates to Remember
Here are the key milestones related to this transition:
- Effective January 20th, 2025: Insight support will no longer be available via email. Please submit support requests through regular support channels. For guidance on how to get technical support, refer to this public article.
- Effective April 2nd, 2025: Insight Energy Analysis and Green Building Studio will no longer accept new models for analysis. Existing models will remain accessible for viewing and data export. To perform new analyses, customers will need to submit models using Revit 2023.1 or later versions.
- Effective July 1st, 2025: Access to the models and analysis results will be removed. We recommend downloading your data before this date to avoid any data loss.
- Effective October 1st, 2025: Autodesk will no longer retrieve models and analysis data from Insight Energy Analysis and Green Building Studio.
