On July 1, 2025, both Insight Energy Analysis and Green Building Studio will be fully retired by Autodesk. Make sure to download any critical data before then! Read this post for details on how to do that...
Related: I will be doing an in-person 4-hour workshop on the Next Gen Insight (Total Carbon) the first week in September in Knoxville for AIA East Tennessee COTE!
Insight Energy Analysis
Here are the steps to extract data from the original Insight portal. No data will be transferred automatically (or manually) to the new Next Gen Insight (Total Carbon)!

Exporting Model-Level Data
- From the Project tile,
click the three dots icon to open the menu.
- Choose Export
option, then pick what you want:
- EnergyPlus – Base run in IDF
format.
- gbXML – Includes
default parameters if not defined in Revit (based on building type).
- DOE-2 – Base run in INP
format.
- EnergyCost – Image showing
energy consumption.
- Benchmark Comparison – Visuals
comparing your model to benchmarks.
- Factor Widgets – Each widget
exported as a PNG.
- Select All Icon - You can
download all the file formats listed above
Here is an example of the exported graphics for a specific run (click to enlarge)...
Exporting Table Data
- Choose Export
Table Data option to get energy, cost, and benchmark info tied to
a run.
- Example export shown here (click to enlarge)
Bonus Tip:
Want to export in bulk all the model results at once?- Switch to List
View Mode in your Insight folder.
- Select all the models or
the ones you are interested in.
- Hit the Action
Button at the top left of the model container.
- You can then export
table data for the whole selected list in bulk!
Green Building Studio
If you specifically used GBS you may also want to download that data. Every Insight Energy Analysis run actually also appeared in GBS (thus, everyone who used Insight has data here, technically) but it is likely not needed if you did not specifically use GBS proper.
Exporting the Entire Run List (with results)
- Open the project that has the simulations you want.
- Select all the runs you would like to export.
- Click on Actions in the top right.
- Select "Export run list..."
- You’ll get a CSV with all your runs and their results.
Exporting a Specific Run
- Pick and click the run you want to download data from.
- Click "Export and Download Data Files." tab
- Choose the specific file types you need:
- gbXML – The gbXML for that run.
- DOE-2 – DOE-2 input file.
- EnergyPlus – EnergyPlus input file.
Want the weather file used for the run?
- Go to the Weather Station tab and click "Download Weather Data."
- See the second image below for a CVS export example.
