A new ARCHITECT magazine article just came out, written by Michael Kilkelly, on open source software for architects. I was interviewed and quoted for this article!
Today's post is about this article, and another open source tool for engineer's, called The BHoM, by Buro Happold.
This article digs into what open source is and lists seven great options for architects. Towards the end of the article I was quoted on some of the tools we use at Lake|Flato, such as Blender, pyRevit, and Eddy 3D.
We have been using Blender a lot lately, to prep purchased 3D content for use in real-time rendering (i.e. Enscape). We recently purchased a collection of dinosaur bones for a museum project, trees for a project in New Mexico, and a lot of 3D people models to improve diversity in our renderings.

Another great open source software, which is not specifically for architects, is Buro Happold's The Buildings and Habitats object Model (The BhoM). I had lunch with one of its developers, Michael Hoehn, while at the Advancing Computational Building Design conference. Lake|Flato is also working on a project with BH at UPenn right now; Amy Gutmann Hall, a mass timber data science center! Learn more about that bia this link: https://bhom.xyz/
