BIM Chapters 2024 Recap and Top Ten Posts

This year has been an incredible journey—I had the privilege of presenting at several major industry events and am honored to have received the 2024 AIA San Antonio Trailblazer Award

In today's post, I want to share the top ten posts on BIM Chapters, which are nicely spread across 2024.

Plus, 2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting year with a keynote in January, a presentation at NVIDIA GTC in Silicon Valley, and a workshop at a conference in Japan! I will also enter my last year of service on the national AIA COTE LG.

1. February 2024: Recap - AIA San Francisco Design Technology Symposium

Why It’s Notable: This post shares a firsthand account of the insightful Design Technology Symposium hosted by AIA San Francisco. From emerging BIM workflows to discussions on open standards, the event offered new ways of thinking about technology’s impact on design.

Why It’s Notable: 3Dconnexion’s devices remain a game-changer for streamlined 3D navigation. Along with an overview of how these devices improve AEC workflows, I also hosted a fun keyboard giveaway on an episode of BIM Pure where we covered Autodesk Forma (click here to watch)—congrats again to our lucky winner!

Why It’s Notable: Artificial intelligence continues to pique the AEC industry’s interest. In this post, I experimented with Veras by EvolveLab to generate my Revit 2025 book covers—showcasing AI’s potential in creative design tasks.

Why It’s Notable: Autodesk Forma was the buzzword this spring, so I put together a multi-part series, sponsored by Autodesk. This recap revisits key insights, highlighting how Forma could enhance urban planning and early-stage conceptual modeling.

Why It’s Notable: With terrain modeling often tricky in Revit, this guide simplifies Toposolid creation for Revit 2025. Originally featured on the Enscape blog, it covers step-by-step instructions for realistic site development in your design models.

Why It’s Notable: To help the Revit community level up, I’ve curated over 70 free professional development videos on YouTube. This post highlights my favorite playlists and the kinds of topics you can expect to find—from beginner tips to advanced workflow hacks.

Why It’s Notable: Chaos Connect Day proved to be a mecca for visualization pros. I walked through sessions covering real-time ray tracing, lighting in V-Ray, and the next generation of cloud rendering solutions.

Why It’s Notable: Revit schedules are crucial for clear documentation and efficient project management. This piece compiles my favorite time-saving tips—think calculated fields, conditional formatting, and customized sorting for better clarity.

Why It’s Notable: From new features teased in upcoming software releases to in-depth panel discussions about the future of BIM, AU 2024 did not disappoint. Check out my session highlights, along with networking insights and practical takeaways.

Why It’s Notable: Designing angled mullions can make or break a façade concept. In this post, I address a common challenge with Revit curtainwalls: achieving non-orthogonal grids and ensuring accurate panel alignment.

Conclusion

These ten posts capture the essence of an eventful and innovative 2024 for BIM Chapters. Between presenting at various industry conferences and winning the 2024 AIA San Antonio Trailblazer award, this year has pushed my passion for BIM, design technology, and sustainability to new heights. Thank you to everyone who followed along, shared feedback, and joined the discussion—your engagement is what makes this blog so rewarding!
