NVIDIA just published a blog post featuring a proof of concept (PoC) project Lake|Flato participated in, to properly size a VDI environment to optimize power consumption, yet still fully support our large complex projects in Enscape.
On a related note, I will be participating in a webinar tomorrow to talk about Enscape's implementation of NVIDIA DLSS.
In March of 2021, before they could be purchased, NVIDIA sent us two NVIDIA A40s for our PoC effort. For this PoC we worked with an amazing virtual computing firm in Austin Texas, Whitehat Virtual Technologies. I highly recommend them for any VDI needs you might have... they don't have to be local to do what they do.
As the blog post states, one of our goals was to see how much we can reduce power consumption, specifically related to our office remodel and off-site PV power needs (for more on that, click here). We were able to get down to 94 watts per person; this is for the entire workstation, not just the GPU! This is while trying very hard to push the system with multiple users, using Enscape, Revit (incl the RFO benchmark) and more at the same time. NVIDIA is making great strides in this area!
I will share more stats in a future post, and come back and link to it here. For now, I will just share this GPU profiler image showing a 12GB profile with 10 GB in-use (cyan line)... the red line is the CPU, which Ensacpe uses when opening a model for real-time rendering - which is why it was maxed out at the beginning.

Enscape + NVIDIA Webinar on DLSS support
On another front, I will be joining NVIDIA and Enscape tomorrow, for a webinar about Enscape's implementation of NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Hear from Enscape's lead rendering developer Clemens Musterle. I saw his slides and heard what he is going to talk about... a must see for anything interested in nerding out on how Enscape works under the hood.
NVIDIA's Andrew Rink will be talking about their offerings in this space. I will be sharing how this benefits an architecture firm, like Lake|Flato.
