AKN Article - Restoring BIM 360 icon missing from Revit open dialog box 2020 & 2021

Do you miss having the BIM 360 icon in the open dialog in Revit? In today's post, I will share an Autodesk Knowledge Network (AKN) article on how to restore it. This article was written by my friend, Nauman Mysorewala.

Revit Home Icon

Before I share the article I will mention one tip related to this missing icon... I find that most people who are looking for this icon are not aware of what the new icon in the upper left of the Revit window does (see image below). Once I show them they can  click this at any time to get back to the Revit home screen, which then lists all BIM 360 projects, they are happy.

Restoring the BIM 360 Icon

Revit 2019 is the last version to include the BIM 360 icon in the Open dialog. If you want the convenience of accessing BIM 360 projects from within the Open dialog, in Revit 2020 and 2021, simply follow Nauman's steps in this post, on Autodesk's website:

Linking via Desktop Connector

One more thing to share... not related to restoring the BIM 360 icon. When you need to link a DWG or Revit file that is not formally hosted in BIM 360 Collaborate (aka BIM 360 Design, aka C4R) e.g. a structural engineer is working locally and sharing their files once a week, you can access the files you manually saved in Autodesk Desktop Connector by selecting My Computer and then BIM 360 Team as shown in the image below. This workflow allows everyone working on the project to have access to the current linked files via the cloud.
