Embodied Carbon Report via Lake Flato Investigations

Here at Lake|Flato, we have a research program called Investigations. The fruit of this effort is a journal, which is used to disseminate the findings of the effort, both internally and externally.

In today's post I want to share some of the details of this program and our latest completed project on Embodied Carbon!

Investigations

Once or twice a year, individuals or teams submit proposals for something they would like to spend time researching. A handful of projects are selected each year, which allows for scheduled time and resources to promote success. At the bottom of this post you will find links, to the LF blog, on three current projects.

"What really makes Lake|Flato Investigations unique is that it provides an opportunity for anyone in the office to explore their interests and, in so doing, deepen our understanding of the ever-evolving role the built environment plays in addressing the needs of our society and planet.” Tenna Florian, AIA, Partner, Lake|Flato

Embodied Carbon Report

"What is the carbon impact of materials being used in LF's projects and how can we quantify and reduce those impacts?"
A recent investigation produced a wealth of knowledge around mitigating embodied carbon in construction. From a well defined statement of the problem, to understanding related design decisions through LCA studies, to real-world LF case studies... this report incredibly informative. I think it would be a great resource for professionals and design students!

This research was performed by Kate Sector, Design Performance Coordinator, and Ryan Yaden, Associate Partner.
